Iftar Networking event
On 9th March 2025, SBWN hosted a heartfelt Iftaar evening for new migrants and international students, individuals who are courageously building a sense of home in a new land.
Some had arrived just weeks ago, others within the past year, yet all carried a deep emotional connection to the home they left behind, often too profound for words.
The evening was designed to better understand the unique challenges these newcomers face. Through open conversations, several key areas of need emerged:
- Networking and community connections
- Gaining local work experience
- Personal mentorship and guidance
- Support with interview preparation, CV writing, and job searching
- Mental health and social well-being support
- Assistance with finding accommodation
Meeting over 75 students, listening to their stories, and witnessing their gratitude was deeply moving. They shared their journeys, the struggles, the small victories, and the resilience that defines this new chapter of their lives.
It was an evening filled with warmth and belonging. For many, it was their first real experience of the Bangladeshi community since arriving, a comforting reminder of home, far from home.
We were honoured to host the event at Grameen Restaurant in Lakemba, Sydney, and extend our heartfelt thanks for their generous support. This event was made possible by the kind contributions of our senior citizens (our beloved aunties and uncles), SBWN members, and Creative Business Group. A special thank you to the UWS (United We Are Stronger) student organisation for partnering with us and helping bring this evening to life.
A small act of kindness can go a long way. Together, we are stronger.
